Gold of Youth

This is part of a daily writing project in conjunction with photographer Sarah Tesar. For every day of May 2017 I will be writing a short piece inspired by Sarah’s daily photos as posted on her Instagram feed.

The spun gold of my youth. A home, surrounded by wheat, canola, barley. Natural borders, walls that grow and change colour and get swept away with the changing seasons.

Seemingly endless swaths of green and yellow. Standing tall at the peak of harvest. Wavering and flowing, shadows cascading across and through the ocean fields with the sun and winds. A powerful rush of rustling hush.

The fields blossom and flourish for just long enough, before being taken, made to feed us all. The harvest does so much for us, year round. Even just the sight and sound.

We are thankful.
